How to reach us, and answers to the questions we get asked most.

Email iam@sosorry.co.uk. We answer within two working days, usually sooner. We are a small operation in London, so replies arrive on UK hours.

If you are reporting something wrong with a day count or a residency result, it helps enormously if you include: the country, the tax year, the number the app showed, the number you expected, and how you logged the trips involved. A screenshot of the country page is usually enough. You can also export your trip log to CSV from Settings → Export your trips and attach it.

Is this tax advice?

No. Midnights is an informational day-counting tool and it is not tax advice. It compares the trips you log against published rules — the HMRC Statutory Residence Test, the IRS Substantial Presence Test, and EU Regulation 2016/399 for the Schengen 90/180 window — and shows you the arithmetic with its sources cited. It does not know your full circumstances, and it cannot replace a qualified adviser. Always confirm your position with one before you act on it.

Where a country's real rule is more complicated than a flat 183-day count, the app deliberately declines to give you a verdict rather than give you a misleading one. You will see your day count and a note explaining why the verdict is withheld.

Why is my day count different from what I expected?

Most surprises come down to three things:

Subscriptions and billing

The residency engines, day counts and at-risk warnings are free, permanently. A subscription adds cloud sync, threshold alerts, what-if trip planning and the accountant-ready PDF and CSV exports, after a 14-day free trial.

Subscriptions are billed by Apple, not by us, so we cannot see your payment details, issue refunds, or cancel on your behalf. To manage or cancel, open the Settings app → your name → Subscriptions on your device. Cancel at least 24 hours before a period ends to avoid the next charge. For refunds, use reportaproblem.apple.com. If you have already paid and the app is not unlocking, tap Restore purchases on the subscription screen first, then email us if that does not fix it.

Your data, sync and location

An account is optional — the app works fully signed out, with your data held on your device. Signing in adds cloud sync across your devices.

Automatic day tracking is opt-in and off until you turn it on. When it is on, your coordinates are turned into a country on your device, offline. Only the date and the country are ever stored. Your raw location never leaves your phone and is never sent to us. You can purge the tracking history at any time from Settings → Auto-track my days.

To delete your account and everything in it, see delete your account. Our Privacy Policy sets out what we collect and why in full, and the Terms of Use cover the rest.
